HELP DESK SPECIALIST I

Position Summary:
Provide direct IT (tier1 and tier2) support to faculty, staff, and students; including departments located off-campus such as the Art Museum, Innovation Center, and Garcia Center.

Use troubleshooting/training skills to resolve computer-related issues by phone, onsite, or remote desktop for both Windows and Macintosh platforms. This includes resolving basic to complex issues related to software, hardware, networking, printing, account/password issues, installation, and all other computer related issues supported by Information Technology. Escalate issues as appropriate.

Utilize customer service skills over the telephone and when visiting departments directly.

Provide backup support and assistance to other full-time help desk staff and student help desk employees.

Develop training material and knowledge base of FAQs.

Research and evaluate software.

Required Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field. One year of related experience that includes various operating systems, word processing, worksheets, and databases. Additional experience may be used for education requirement. Must be able to work shift work. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move twenty pounds.

Knowledge of help desk software. Applied knowledge in Information Technology support, training, troubleshooting, and problem-solving with a high level of attention to detail.

Possess strong customer service and decision-making skills. Strong conceptual, analytical and technical skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational & verbal and written communication skills.

Proven ability to manage multiple projects with changing priorities. Be able to work independently or part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field. Experience with remote desktop support. Information Technology Help Desk support in higher education. Windows and MAC operating systems, Word, Excel, Outlook, knowledge of ODBC (Open Database Connectivity), TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol), and networks in general.
