POSITION TITLE:

DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN DESKTOP SUPPORT AND EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST

DEPARTMENT:

MAINTENANCE- TECHNOLOGY SERVICES

REPORTS TO:

SUPERVISOR OF TECHNOLOGY

SUMMARY:

Repairs and maintains district technology equipment and infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain and repair district’s technology equipment and networks, including audio/visual, video and computer equipment.

Maintain an up-to-date spare parts inventory.

Maintain repair records and facilitate warranty services from equipment manufacturers.

Order supplies and parts for the repair/support of technology equipment.

Interact with vendors for repair services in compliance with district service maintenance contracts.

Coordinate software installation and upgrades and appropriate licensing procedures.

Participate in technology planning and training.

Provide CISCO telephone support, trouble-shooting and on-site technical support.

Facilitate recording and presentation resources for Board of Education and special programs.

Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase and assist and support the inventory of district technology tools and equipment.

Report work accomplished orally and in writing to supervisor.

Prepare and follow a preventative maintenance schedule.

Coordinate work with technical and infrastructure instructional and non-instructional staff.

Assist in emergency operations.

Instruct staff on the proper use of computer and AV equipment.

Is available for work beyond regular hours and perform general work and all other duties as may be assigned.

None.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY. THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND/OR ABILITY REQUIRED. REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS MAY BE MADE TO ENABLE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Associate Degree in Electronics with emphasis on computers, broadcast/cable or communications systems preferred.

Successful work experience with repairing DOS/Windows-based computers.

Successful work experience with repairing and supporting audiovisual and presentation equipment such as VCRs, televisions, laserdisc players and LCD projectors.

Connecticut Motor vehicle license.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups and other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Extensive knowledge of computer operation and computer software. Ability to operate computer, network equipment and other forms of related technology. Use of arms and hands for finger dexterity for operating such equipment.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education Policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
