McDonald Carano LLP is seeking candidates for a Technical Support Specialist to join the team in our Reno office. This position will be responsible for investigating and resolving computer software and hardware problems of company users, as well as issues relating to other areas of the company’s technology assets. This position will also assist IT Department staff in day-to-day technology operations. This position ensures the company’s attorneys and staff have up-to-date, secure and functioning technology in order to perform the core functions of their jobs.


Perform hardware and software installations, repairs and upgrades

Provide help desk support in person and via telephone and remote software

Perform mobile device management for all smartphones and tablets

Maintain hardware inventories and software licensing information

Maintain organized storage and inventory of spare IT equipment

Perform desktop patch management and deployment image management

Process technology aspects of new hires and departures

Handle audio/video conference connections and projector setups

Coordinate with software and hardware vendors to arrange service for defective products

Install and configure other technology assets, such as printers, scanners, copiers, telephones, network devices, and smartphones

Assist IT staff with maintaining firm network including: administration, backup, upgrades, installations, and troubleshooting

Assist IT staff with large projects (such as major software or hardware upgrades, office moves, security initiatives, etc.)

Keep up-to-date on all relevant technology through documentation, seminars and webinars

Other duties as assigned


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The candidate must demonstrate a reasonable level of knowledge, including fluency in the latest versions of the software listed below, and will be expected to expand that knowledge during employment through on-the-job-training and self-study. The candidate must have full use of their hands and be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The candidate must be willing to be available at nights and on weekends for the occasional upgrade or emergency. Customer service skills a plus.


Any combination of experience, certifications, or schooling in Information Technology equal to three years is desired (law firm experience a plus!)

Substantial experience in the following technologies: Microsoft Windows (7 through 10); Office (2016 and O365); Windows Server (2008 and later); Exchange Server (2010 and later)

Experience in the following technologies is also preferred: Microsoft WSUS and/or SCCM; Citrix XenApp and XenServer; VMware; Microsoft SQL Server; document management systems (i.e., NetDocuments); Sophos; SharePoint; networking technologies (switches, routers, firewalls, WAPs, VLANs)

High school graduate (college degree preferred)
